She is currently employed by Wacker Chemicals as the Sales Manager for performance materials for South Africa. She is a scuba diver and loves spending time in the bush!

Roy Gardiner

Honorary Treasurer

Educated at the Universities of Cape Town, Johannesburg and UNISA. Roy worked in R&D for the past 30 years, which ultimately culminated in him heading up the Business Excellence programme for Avroy Shlain Cosmetics. He was a member of the Steering Committee for the 1999 IFSCC Conference held in South Africa. He has also served in many key roles in Coschem including Council Member, Management Committee Member, Treasurer and President. He was instrumental in developing and implementing the very successful Cosmetic Science Diploma Correspondence Course. Currently he plays a very important role on the Education Committee as the person responsible for the updating of the Diploma Course notes and determining project briefs, as well as lecturing in a variety of subjects. He has successfully managed the Society’s finances since 1998. Leading up to the IFSCC 2012 Congress he was appointed as Chairperson of the IFSCC 2012 Steering Committee. He joined the IFSCC Praesidium in 2008 as a Committee Member and was the IFSCC President in 2012/2013 He is currently the Immediate Past President of the IFSCC. Roy has presented papers both locally and internationally on a variety of subjects.

Wayne has more than 30 years’ experience in the industry and specialises in Hair Care, particularly, ethnic hair, Skin Care and Sun care. He has held various positions from QC Material analyst, R&D Manager, Manufacturing Manager, Technical Manager to his current position, with various companies, such as Revlon, Amka, Hoechst and Procter & Gamble.He currently serves on the Coschem council, was past president, chairs the Scientific committee and lectures in Stability Science and Ethnic Hair. He is on the CTFA Executive committee, and an Export Executive. He also serves on the Technology Innovation Agencies Advisory Panel.His hobbies include Wild life and hunting. As sport goes, he is a Golfer and Boater.

lyndsay Lyndsay Calenborne

Lyndsay studied a BSc (Microbiology & Biochemistry) at Rhodes University in GrahamstownPrior to joining Buxus, Lyndsay worked for Akulu Marchon as a Key Account Manager. She is currently employed by Savannah Fine Chemicals..Lyndsay has two children Thomas and Kelly whom she adores and keep her very busy. She also enjoys reading, cooking, running and generally having fun.

Amanda Profile

Amanda Dahl

Amanda comes from an industrial chemical background with 8 years experience in detergency manufacturing. She has certification in GMP and HACCP. She completed the Coschem Diploma in 2015 with her husband Matthew. Amanda is the Managing Director of PHI Developments that sources specialty products and raw material for a vast variety of industries. She also distributes finished products for 4M solutions. She has two daughters, Aaliyah and Likita. In her leisure time enjoys cooking with them and reading books when she isn’t programming with her husband.

Charmaine works for Chempure as a Key Accounts manager on Personal Care and Homecare.  She is a R&D Chemist and a Packaging Engineer, with a Diploma in Cosmetic Science and a Diploma in Packaging Engineering.  She has studied Beauty Technology at Technikon of Pretoria and Production management and is currently studying her Biomedical Science degree at Unisa. She has 18 years of experience in the industry and held various positions from Lab manager, Manufacturing manager, Quality Manager, R&D Chemist, Product developer, HOD Manufacturing and Packaging Ingeneer to her current position being Key Accounts manager for Personal Care and Homecare, with various companies, such as Adcock Ingram/Tiger Brands, CW Pharmaceuticals, Avon/Justine, SRT/Southern Implants, Prime Products and Favours Factory.   She continued her journey by starting her own consulting business with a salon and consulted for different companies. She then decided to pursue a sales career and is the Key accounts manager at Chempure.

I enjoy Photography and the outdoors.

I love Zumba, I am a qualified instructor and Bounce as sports.

I am married and have two daughters Mikayla and Abbygale Du Preez, being 7 years and 9 months of age.

Jill Gardiner

Chair of Education Committee/ Education Officer

Jill has many years of experience in the cosmetic industry. She has worked for Helena Rubinstein, Estee Lauder and CTFA and represented South Africa at ISO (International Standards Organisation) on the Microbiology, GMP, Sun, Terminology & Advisory Working Groups. Her passion lieswith education, which she has exercised through literacy & numeracy training and acting as the Education Officer for the Cosmetic Science Diploma Course. She has played an active role on theCoschem Council and has also been part of the Executive as President and Honorary Secretary. She also acts as a Moderator for the BSc Honour’s Degree in Formulation Science at NMMU as well as sitting on their Advisory Board. She enjoys the outdoors and being able to make a difference in the lives of others.

Patricia has been active in the Cosmetic Industry since 1997. Drawing from her knowledge obtained from a B.Sc (Hons ) in Biochemistry and Coschem Cosmetic Science Diploma, she started her career as Cosmetic R&D Chemist at Annique Skin Care. She has since been involved in various local Cosmetic Manufacturing companies including PPM , Incolabs, Permark International and SDK Agencies. She obtained a broad knowledge across various market segment including Skin Care, Suncare, Hair Care and Colour Cosmetics. All of her past experience culminated in the position of Technical Manager at Sensient Colors South Africa, where she serves the cosmetic industry with information and expertise regarding all matters related to colour.

Ronald Makola

Chair of PR Committee 

Ntsana Ronald Makola, studied Analytical Chemistry through Technikon Northern Transvaal, now Tshwane University of Technology, and went on to start a career at Black Like Me as an R & D technician, and moved up the ranks with the company till Colgate- Palmolive appointed him to be part of the Marketing Team looking after the Hair Care Division( with Black Like Me as part of the group), then took over the reins again as Production Manager(cater taker for 2 years), and went back to be the Head of Marketing of the division till today under Amka Hair care division.

He completed MAP at Wits Business School in 2002, and various other courses in the 22 years at the company. He was member of CTFA Scientific

Committee in 1999 and was chair at one of the sessions at the IFSCC Conference held at Sun City in South Africa.

He was part of the team that did Training in Permanent Hair colour market in the UK in 2001 and then launched into the local hair colour market in 2002, competing against multinationals within the category. Developed & compiled a document for Product Claim Substantiation for the Body Lotions range, Skin Sensations, with Medunsa, for a 24 Hour Skin protection claim. Conceptualized and Project Managed events like the Miss Black Like Me between 2002- 2005 & was part of the team that Managed( from a sponsorship side) The Face of Africa- which run across several African countries via DSTV medium, regional selection in Angola, Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Ethiopia,  Somalia among others, finals taking place in Sun City super bowl, South Africa. Invited by Marcus Evans (a Business Training company) to present a paper on the topic “Below –the Line Marketing” in 2006. Ronald enjoys his time spent being a mentor to young entrepreneurs and part of the Black Like Me CSI team that plays a role in developing youngsters through the Arts, Sports & Entertainment.

Percy is the holder of a Bachelor of Science (Honours) Degree in Applied Chemistry and the Diploma in Cosmetic Science. He has worked in various capacities within the cosmetic industry in South Africa including but not limited to Quality Management & Control, Product Development and Regulatory Affairs. Percy is a member of COSCHEM, serves on the society’s Education Committee and also lectures the Basic Chemistry, Oils, Fats & Waxes as well as the Hair Care Modules for the Diploma course. He currently serves or has served on several working groups and committees for the Chemical, Cosmetic, FMCG & Allied Industries at CTFA, SABS, NRCS, CGCSA, AMA and several other South African government departments and their agencies. The activity of these working groups and committees includes but is not limited to the regulatory aspects of nanotechnology, chemicals management, cosmetics advertising, cosmetic ingredients, cosmetic product categories, legal metrology, waste management, standards development etc.  Involvement in this vast array of regulatory activities has culminated in Percy being appointed as the Chairperson of the Cosmetic Regulatory Review (CRR) Working Group at CTFA that helps keep the cosmetic industry’s formal and self-regulatory mechanisms up to date with worldwide regulatory norms. Currently, Percy works for L’Oréal South Africa in the position of Scientific & Regulatory Affairs Advisor responsible for Regulatory Intelligence Activities in the Sub-Saharan Africa Region.

René obtained her B.Sc. Hons degree at the University of Stellenbosch.  She started her career in diverse positions from QA to R&D at Distillers Corporation in Stellenbosch, still has products selling into the local and international markets from this tenure.  She started her sales career with Degussa, now Evonik, as Technical Sales Representative, in Animal Nutrition.  She obtained experience in Product Management and Business Management, at two major chemical suppliers in South Africa.  In November 2011, she joined Evonik Africa tasked with developing Evonik’s business in Sub-Saharan Africa in the areas of Personal Care, Household Care and Baby Care.  After appointing several distributors, and crisscrossing Africa, she gave up Baby Care in order to focus on opportunities in the Oil & Gas markets, while still handling business development for Personal & Household Care.

 Janine Janine Wilson

Janine began her science years studying and majoring in Chemistry and Applied Mathematics. This culminated in her graduating with a MSc in Chemistry from the University of the Witwatersrand. Initially, her focus was inorganic chemistry and molecular modelling having various publications in this field.

Janine worked in sales, industry, and academia in the mining sector, and over time moved into cosmetics. She was previously Sales Manager for the Personal Care and Healthcare portfolio at Croda Chemicals, has worked in formulating at the direct selling multinational, Oriflame head office in Dublin and in Regulatory as Technical Manager of the CTFA.   Janine is currently the Senior R & D Associate M & E at Reckitt Benckiser looking after Air care, fabric care, pest care and polishes.

Erica is currently the Sales Manager at Unichem Services.

Her expertise includes and are not limited to Finance and Sales but extends to extensive knowledge in customer relationships.

With her years of experience and outgoing personality, she has sustained and nurtured customer relationships over many years.

Erica’s strengths lie in delivering what she promises and providing excellent after sales support.

She is analytical with great attention to detail and thrives on accuracy especially when working under pressure.

Erica is enthusiastic and curious and believes in positive outcomes. She has completed a Cosmetic Science Diploma and is consistently focussed in all her efforts to achieve objectives and goals. She is willing to learn in order to keep up with our changing world. Erica enjoys spending free time with R&D work as her dream is to become one of the Top Formulators in this field.

Bridget Bridget MacDonald General Secretary

Bridget is the General Secretary of the Society of Cosmetic Chemists South Africa. Her core responsibilities include administration, bookkeeping, liaising with members, managing the Diploma Course and organising various events for the Society. She was involved in the successful management and organisation of the 1999 IFSCC Conference and 2012 IFSCC Congress. She was previously employed by the Sandton Chamber of Commerce but has been an employee of the Society for close on 21 years. The passion, drive and enthusiasm of the members have captured her soul and she loves working in this arena .
