Speciality Chemicals Function Manager

The Job
The Specialty Chemicals function within this business supplies  various products sourced from 3rd party manufacturers located globally. Its customer base is a broad range of industrial businesses for use in their manufacturing processes. It is the smallest of the functional units having only been in existence for 3 years, but has enjoyed significant growth and success in that time.

We are looking to add resource to this function and the role will have responsibility for all aspects of the specialty chemical function in Africa. The three core areas of focus for this job role.

  • Customer ~ Retain existing customers and identify and bring in new customers. Expanding the contribution by both volume and product portfolio growth.
  • Supplier ~ Manage and expand the business relationship with existing suppliers. Identify and negotiate with new suppliers to expand the product portfolio
  • Internal functions ~ Work with other functional managers and their teams to achieve the required support to meet functional objectives

Skills, Knowledge & Experience:
Critical Behavioural Profile

  • Analytical and problem solving skills.
  • High attention to detail and thorough.
  • Very strong self-management

Experience

  • Very experienced negotiating with customer’s senior management level
  • At least 10 years Product Management experience preferably supplying to the Homecare, Personal Care or Pharmaceutical markets.
  • Good understanding of and experience in raw material supply chain distribution from supplier to customer.
  • Experience with dealing with foreign principals on an agency or distributor basis
  • Previous experience negotiating with and supplying to multi-national companies. Includes working with open book costing models
  • Can work to identify root cause problems and develop solutions relating to customers product requirements.
  • Proven experience in business development within South Africa, but preferably including the African continent, backed with concrete measurable results.
  • Able to undertake International and local travel when required. Valid SA drivers licence.

Educational Profile

  • Having the required skills and Behavioural Competencies and demonstrating the appropriate experience are the critical requirements of this job role rather than any formal academic qualification.
  • Whilst no specific tertiary educational requirements are stipulated the candidate must be able and confident to communicate and engage with technical specialists across scientific, engineering and technical areas
  • Candidate does need strong IT competency
